All journalists are not democrats, but certainly most are. A survey done in the early 1990's showed that 97% of the reporters national press core identified themselves as democrats or liberals. When you leave Washington and look toward more local press, the liberal bias is less pronounced.

Over time, the news media is becoming more balanced and less liberal. Fox News is certainly not liberal, nor are the commentators on talk radio. Many of the top liberal newspapers (LA Times, NY Times) are suffering at the expense of the Internet and less liberal papers.

To answer your question, I will present three reasons.

First, consider the type of person who is attracted to journalism. Journalism, like politics, is a way to effect change in the world. Therefore, it attracts people with a more active political agenda. These tend to be democrats. Conservatives, on the other hand, tend to believe more in individual responsibility and less on government action.

Second, most teachers are democrats. Surveys have shown that 91% of public school teachers are democrats. Teachers unions virtually always support democratic candidates and agendas. The top journalism schools (Columbia University, etc )are well known bastions for liberal thinking. When you are entering a field that is based largely on politics and your teachers have strong political views, you will tend to share many of these views.

Third, journalists are in the business of selling their news stories. For the most part, this means seeking out problems and scandals. Stories that speak to liberal concerns (environmental damage, poverty, etc.) sell.

Because Liberals, by nature, are more objective than Conservatives.
Most journalists, because of the nature of their work, lean towards a progressive agenda. This agenda is traditionally represented by Democrats.

most of them, at least in the big cities seem to be. Journalism is part of the media and the media is controlled mostly by liberals, so that's why alot of jouranlists are democrats.
