This is in the lower right corner near the clock, right? If so, it's the normal Windows Security Center messaging that occurs if you do not have a firewall and anti-virus installed. You should have both of these: there are free Anti-Virus programs out there, and there is a Firewall built into Windows you can turn on in the Control Panel.

Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html
The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html

That sounds like adware. More than likely if you click on the pop-up you will be taken to a web site that wants to sell you adware blockers or scanners. (Nice huh? You should pay so OTHER people can't scam you like they are trying to do)

There are tons of free programs that will scan and remove adware. My favorite is Spybot-Search and Destroy. It's available for free at www.download.com

the guy above is right. it's just window's way of saying that it's not as safe as i could be. if you are using your own virus software, you need to tell windows that in the virus protection section of the security center. it DOES NOT mean that you have anything.

It is happening most probably due to the fact that you don't have genuine Windows. You have got to purchase an original version in order to get rid of the message.
