The selected answer is downright disturbing. I honestly believe the woman is joking, if not, well then... she is gonna have one screwed up child. Is this any way to parent?

'He's a good trustworthy kid, otherwise I wouldn't even consider it.'
This part sealed the deal for me. That kid will never grow.

I see nothing wrong with her answer. If she is keeping a good watch on what her son does while online, and has installed all the best parental controls, there is nothing wrong with a child having internet access in their rooms so that they have freedom to do their homework and chat with friends without feeling that they are being watched tooo much. A lot of teenagers are more trustworthy than adults want to give them credit for. If a child or adolesent shows good judgement in right and wrong, then there is nothing wrong with it. Only the parent knows what is best for the child. It doesn't mean that she will have a screwed up son or that he will never grow. It just means that she and her son have a better parent/child relationship than most. I would have killed for that kind of relationship with my mum when I was growing up, and hope to have that kind of relationship with my daughter when she gets that age.

If the kid agreed to it, then that's the deal for him. His desire to have the internet in his room was more than his desire for privacy.
I think that the mom is a little smothering, but I've heard worse.
A woman I worked with told me that she knew everything her daughter did because she put a baby monitor in an empty speaker cabinet in the family room. Whenever the daughter had friends over, she listened in in another room. The daughter didn't know what her mom was doing.

Undoubtedly the asker agreed with her.
I say that if you TRUST your kid, why do all the screening anyway... Sounds disturbing but people raise their children different ways than I did.
My children NEVER had a computer in their rooms. Always in the living room and we were always home at the same times. No problem there anyways.
Children trust other people alot more than adults do. They answer questions on line and in person that seem to be innocent but then they could give out all the info a perv needs.
Please, instill in your children to NEVER give even their real names to anyone or any other personal info.

I understand where she is coming from as a parent, however, I do agree that is a bit too far if she doesn't trust him; she says she does, so that's stating an oxymoron. You can't block out everything, that's just as bad as putting a bag over your head and not seeing what is happening in the current state of things we as Americans are witnessing in this day and age. He won't have a normal upbringing and experience himself; he'll need to learn from his mistakes, as well as she- maybe she an ulterior motive- that seems a bit excessive to read emails.

A little bit. He has no choice but to be a trustworthy kid! She wouldn't let him be anything else. Would she be saying that if she didn't do all that stuff?

do you have a 15 year old boy with access to the internet? Now a days you cant be too careful, but if she has to go to the extremes of locking up his router, then she should just take it out of his room
