What are some good games to play. What kind of prizes do you give to the winner of the games? I was told by someone that you give out baby items as prizes and the winner gives them to the mommy to be....is that true???

A fun game if the mommy-to-be is game is guess the size of the belly, pass around a ball (or a couple) of balls of yarn and scissors, the guests cut a piece of yarn as long as they think it will need to be to fit around the belly. Then you take turns testing the yarn by wrapping it around the mommy-to-be. Whoever is closest wins!!!

Another game is "Don't say baby" you give each guest 3-4 clothes pins upon arrival and then tell them that they can't say baby. If another guest catches them saying "baby" then they get to take one of the clothes pins, Whomever has the most at the end wins.

You don't have to give out baby items as prizes, all the showers that I have been at had prizes that the guests could take home with them (dollar store, but nice Picture frames, candles etc.)

Have fun, and congratulations to the Mommy-to-be!!!!

we just had my shower back in October. We played the candy in the diaper game. We also did a door prize, bring a pack of diapers and be entered into a special door prize, you get LOTS of diapers this way! Another one we did was the baby bottle chug a lug, we had a co-ed shower. All the guys had to chug out of a baby bottle, it's harder than it looks! You can put a fictional character name on everyones back, they can only ask someone one question, must be yes or no, first persin to guess who they are, wins (disney characters, cartoon characters, nursery characters etc). We also had a poster where everyone guessed the baby's gender, birth date, weight and length. We listed both mine and daddy's stats at the top and they made their guesses. I haven't delivered yet, but so far three people are knocked out. lol Winner won't be determined until I deliver obviously.

For prizes there were simple things like jar candles, box of chocolates and pocket games (for the guy games), things like that.

Guess the due date, Name the baby, Guess the sex, Guess the belly size in toilet paper squares ......Prizes are up to you would be nice to give to the mother to be but she would also get most of these items at the shower. At my SIL shower we played little games like above and the winner got to have their gift opened then, instead of when all the other gifts were opened after all the games were played. It really depends on the person throwing the shower and the family traditions if any.

The funniest game we played at my shower was chocolate bar in the diaper. You melt (in microwave or on the rad) 5 or 6 different kinds of chocolate bars into it's own diaper. Your guests have to match the chocolate bar with the diaper. You can smell and touch but no tasting. The pictures from this game were priceless!! My 3 year old niece was there and was horrified to see us sniffing "dirty diapers"

Gifts: a fun thing to do is that each gift can be "stolen" before it is opened. So if you can find werd shaped gifts, wrap them and when someone wins a game, they pick a gift. They can't open it yet though. When someone else wins a game, they can "steal" that first gift or pick one from the pile. If your gift is stolen, you get to pick a new one from the pile. Any gift can only be stolen 3 times. Then you can open it. It was fun and we had lots of laughs. One of the gifts was a back washer (brushes for the shower) but because it was a weird shape, it kept getting stolen. It's also nice to get to pick a few gifts (because yours was stolen) even if you only end up with one in the end.

Good luck!!

Never heard that one!Go to the dollar store or something like that a pick up like 20 or so little gifts and wrap them in tissue paper but them in a basket or something and when ever someone wins let them grab a prize(for themselves). You can go to a party store and get a book that has baby shower games etc,But we always play baby bingo, measure the moms belly with toilet paper ,guess the baby food and theres alot of other baby word games.I'm sure you could get some off the Internet and print them out.

My sister and cousins threw me the funnest shower! A lot of the games were guessing games, Here's some of what they did:

"guess the baby food"-remove the labels from baby food, number them and have guests guess the flavor.

"name that poop"-melt different types of chocolate bars in a diaper and have the guests guess what candy bar it is.

"what's in the bag"- put different kinds of baby things (pacifier/nasal aspirator/etc....) in bags, number the bags and pass them around and have the guests guess whats in the bags just by feeling the outside of the bags.

"baby price is right"- at my shower we used the items from "whats in the bag" game, have the guests guess on the prices of the baby items.

"how many times will she say baby!"- when each guest arrives have them all sign in with their names and their guess on how many times the mom-to-be will say "baby". Whoever is the closest by the end of the shower wins.

"How well do you know mommy"- have the mom-to-be hide in another room and ask a bunch of questions about the mom-to-be and her pregnancy (due date? sex of baby? what was she wearing today? etc, etc

well I hope this was helpful...and I wouldn't give out baby items for prizes, at my showers they gave away stuff like lotions, sprays, chocolates.

You could give the guests a roll of toilet paper (cheap stuff and they can share amongst each other). Then they have to guess who many squares of loo paper it takes to go around mummys bump.
Or give all guests a paper plate and a pen. They have to put the paper plate on their head and then draw the new baby in the tummy. (they can't see what they are drawing so it makes it funny)
Or melt an array of chocolates into some disposable nappies and ask people to taste it (without hands) to idenitfy which chocolate bar is in there. (not for weak of heart)

You can give gifts that can then be passed onto the mummy to be or if you think that she'll get enough stuff, give gifts that have no real relevance to the baby shower, people will get the hint that it's for them.

Have fun

Every baby shower I've been to, we've played bingo (using baby-related words) and also 'guess the mother's weight' etc. At every shower the prizes were meant as thank-you's to the guests and they did not go to the mother since everyone brought a gift already.

I hate games prefer to just do door prizes. The gifts being baby gifts to be given to mom...NO! Many women get excitted about winning & would not be happy. I did Bath & Body works gift baskets small to large almost every age range woman will use the stuff

okay first off -- nobody wants to win prizes that they have to give away!! they are already bringing a gift for the mom/baby, so having a chance to win something for themselves makes things much more fun. prizes can just be simple little things, like bath products, candles, etc... at my shower we also had little floral arrangements on the tables that we used as gifts too. good way to get rid of all those centerpieces! check out dollar stores for cute little gifts.

as far as games, there is one gross one that is always a hit. get a variety of snack size candy bars, put them in separate diapers, and melt them in the microwave. super nasty, but really fun for everyone to guess the kind of candy bar.

if that is too gross, heres another candy bar game:\

simply have to two lists, and people have to match them up. thats a fun one too.

one more tip - have everyone address an envelope to themselves to be used for thankyous - big timesaver. then you can also use the envelopes to draw names for a couple random prizes.
