Well, our closest living relative, the pygmy chimpanzee (or bonobo) is pansexual. Bonobos use a variety of positions and have a variety of partners, many of whom are of their own sex.

Also, when staff at the Bremerhaven Zoo in Germany found that three of their mated pairs of penguins were actually male-male bonded, they tried to split them up and introduce female penguins in the hopes that they would "straighten out" and reproduce. But it didn't work.

There are also rams who prefer to have sex with other rams. Studies of their brains have revealed structural distinctions that paralleled certain differences in the brains of gay men.

The list goes on and on. Same-sex pairing has been observed in 1,500 species, and well-documented in 500.

So, no, homosexuality is not unique to humans. Birds do it, bees do it. If that doesn't prove it's a perfectly natural variation of the sexual response, I don't know what does.

No. Homosexuality also appears in the animal kingdom. Sometimes just homosexual behavior due to separation of the sexes (ie lions separate into groups of males and groups of females, as do dolphins). But pair bonding between same gender species has also been noticed, especially interesting because these species usually mate for life.

Salon has a wonderful article reviewing a book "Biological Exhuberance" which I've linked below.

Not at all. Many species of animals show the homosexual tendencies.

I heard while in college that studies showed same sex tendencies in primates, but didn't ever see it or any verified research on it, so do a google search about the research otherwise you will get alot of strange porn.
