Theo Epstein is only in a listening mood for Manny Ramirez, despite the Wednesday trade deadline he post to every G.M. at the Winter Meetings. There was no suitor for Ramirez and his remaining $38 million in his contract and the closest suitor, the L.A. Dodgers, didn't want to give up the future for an aging outfielder who wants a contract extenstion that last him until 40. Unless there is an overwhelming offer, Ramirez is staying in Boston until the midseason trade deadline comes up. Zito wants to play for a winner and I'll think he plays for the Mets. Omar Minaya had a tough blow with Pedro Martinez sideline until July, so he needs another ace to supplement Tom Glavine and John Maine until then. Zito said his family would not be involve in his decision and N.Y. still has money to spend, so this makes perfect sense, although he might end up in Texas where his 3rd base coach from Oakland, Ron Washington, is the new manager.

Manny will remain with the Red Sox. I hope Zito is with the Yankees but he will sign with the Mets.

Zito with the Cubs. Manny will remain in Boston where he belongs. Red Sox Nation loves the guy, probably the best hitter in the American League!!

manny is still in boston for now, but you better bet that the trade rumors will resurface soon enough. its just manny being manny and boston being boston.
as for zito, the mets have the best shot at him right now, but you can never count out the yankees. i wouldnt be surprised if a white sox or blue jays deal gets done either......toronto has been quiet to this point. i would like to see a shocker.....like houston or philadelphia.

The Red Sox announced that if they could not trade Manny by close of business Wednesday, they would not be trading him. In fact, there were no offers of players of equal value with proven talents being offered. He is a future hall of famer, but a notorious head case--beloved in Boston, but a head case.
Rumor has it that Texas has offered a letter of intent to Zito.
