I know it used to be Kenny G. with somewhere around 45 min., but I'm not sure anymore.
And to the person who says it's impossible... You need to brush up on your music knowledge. It's called "circular breathing." Breathing in through your nose while breathing out through your mouth. It is definitely possible. Do some research before you tell me I'm wrong. Looks like everyone else did.

I found this question posed in exactly the same wording on www.faqfarm.com , and no one there had answered it either. The only thing that leapt immediately to mind is the nearly minute-long E major piano chord (to the best of my memory) that closes the Beatles' "A Day in the Life." But if Kenny G has held one for 45 MINUTES, then I'm probably way off!
P.S. You know, when I come to think of it, a didgeridoo player holds a note continuously for a looooong time (I've seen a person do this for around 15-20 minutes personally), because of their circular breathing technique. Is this what Kenny G did perhaps? Although I don't think the didgeridoo is his instrument...

I don't know that this has ever been recorded, but with an eBow, you can sustain a guitar/bass note forever (or at least until the batteries run out). I don't know that there would have been a contest for it though.
Vocally, I saw Helloween perform and Michael Kiske held a note for just under a minute. This was a normal part of the show and he kept looking at his watch to check the time. I did too. He ended it with a powerful scream too, so he probably could have gone longer. Good set of pipes on that guy.
And sorry, there's no way that Kenny G held a note for 45 minutes. You couldn't possibly exhale that long, but if you took a breath in, it wouldn't count as continuous because the note would have been interrupted and would have made a harmonica-like sound.
