I am so very sorry for your loss! My heart goes out to you! Is it really important that you get into the spirit of Christmas? It's not written anywhere that we "have to". Take it easy and don't be so hard on yourself. You have suffered a horrible tragedy, take some time out to heal.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss, but Christmas is a time for endings and beginnings. Not all is lost!

What really helps to get in the Christmas mood:
1) Whenever you're in the car, or near a radio, turn on stations playing Christmas songs- there should be an abundant amount by now. You'll find yourself losing yourself in the music and singing along :)
2) Bake Christmas goodies- the smell will drive you nuts.
3) Watch one of those sappy Christmas movies, where there's always a white Christmas and a happy new year.

wow hun i wish i knew what to say except i am really sorry that you are going Through this,i know what you mean about not being able to get it out of your head.I had a neighbor that kept beating his wife i finally called the police but she wouldn't press charges i said i would because i am not going to listen to it anymore,i to couldn't get her screaming out of my head it went away in time,so just give it a little time ok..go out and look at all the decorations that some of these great hotels have or all the houses that look really festive, that might help to get you in the spirit or heck just watch the news and you will realize how good things really are for you..Have a great holiday Bye Debra

I know this sounds crass but you still have your family don't you? Share the spirit of Christmas with others who don't have a family, to ease your loss.
Go caroling in your neighborhood or to nursing homes...my pal got killed just before Christmas by a cab 16 years ago... I was there and my Mom, plus good deeds for less fortunate, helped me thru it.

awww...how sad.i'm srry.but thats ok,all is not lost.I'm an expert at christmas, since christmas is my fave holiday.hmmm...but i never dealth wit this problem before...let me think....things ya can do to get in the holiday sprit:
1)Shop,shop an shop for ornaments and all the decorations you can get.
2)Make a memorial for the dog:make a scrapbook of pics of him and put it under the tree.get an ornament that you can put pics in and put a pic of the dog in it.
3)make most of ur decorations related to dogs.
4)have all ur dogs dress in costume for christmas.
5)talk to ur dogs and after xmas, train them so they will know not to stray.
6)keep his dog bowl or his stuff under the tree with decorations on it.

I guess what i'm trying to sayis chistmas as if the dog was there.it might help.its ok to cry, just let it all out.

~Merry christmas and i hope i helped!!!

Sorry you lost your basset & you had to go through that, but you still have three other dogs & your family. Not to sound harsh, but it could be worse. My mom died very suddenly 11/27 - I can't seem to find my holiday spirit........
