The way Christmas is celebrated in America today is far from the original intent. Do we still need it or not, and why?

yes we need it, retailers need it, kids need it, some things shouldn't go away just because our perception of it has changed. We should be the ones talking to our kids about the true meaning of christmas.
Bottom line, as musch fuss as wal-mart is making about going back to merry christmas instead of happy holidays... they don't care about anything but your money and if they found out that people will spend their money because of a greeting, then they will do it.

Yes. The way of celebrating it is different from the past. (Different way of expressing oneself) However, the meaning behind Christmas will always remain the same. To the Christians, Christmas is the day of remembering that Jesus came to earth.

I don't know much about the celebration in America, but in other countries, Christmas is still considered a very important festival. We can't just remove it.

Everything about Christmas is Pagan. How it is celebrated has not changed much over the years. The only real difference is that people nowadays tend to stay indoors during the winter instead of having outdoor Yule bonfires and such like they used to in years past.

The "original intent" was pagan. Christmas has almost completely pagan (and secular) origins. The date, 12/25, was chosen to overshadow a pagan celebration occurring at the time. The tree is pagan. The gift giving is pagan.

Yes... Why do we have Christmas. What I tell my children is... Jesus was born! We are celebrating his birthday! I would say that is relevant! If we didn't have Christmas then we might forget about its original intent and I for one will not forget! And if they ever go forward with removing Christ from Christmas I am done with present giving! I will turn my back on Happy Holidays!!! They will lose my almighty dollar and I will try my darndest to get other people to boycott spending their money and we'll see what happens then!

This year, more than ever, I have realized that celebrating Christmas and remembering the first coming of Jesus Christ helps us to remember that He will come again. I'd say that's incredibly relevant.
