the messages that have one check say "sent success" and the messages with two checks say "delivered
what is the difference? does one of them mean the person who i sent it to has seen it?

One checkmark next to the message simply means that the message has been received successfully by the network. Two checkmarks next to the message means it was delivered to the handset. In most cases, this confirmation system will only work with messages sent to people on the same carrier, so be careful about that.
There is currently no way to see if the person has read the message yet, only that it was delivered to the handset. Hope this helps!
