gas or electric

In general electric guns (higher end) will have the higher FPS, esepcially in the winter when the cold cools down your mags. However the maximum limit for electrics is around 450 FPS (beyond 450 you will need serious upgrades if you want more then 5 shots), while gas guns could go up into the 1000's using an external tank and HPA. But beyond 400-500 FPS serious damage is possible and at 1000 FPS more then a welt would be left though a ski parka. (I won't link it, but 600 FPS will leave bloody welts and nasty damage)

So to answer your question more accurately; what is the price range?

It all depends on what you do to them. Airsoft guns are sorta like clay. You can mould them into whatever you want by upgrading them, and working on them.

For electric guns, there are many different spring types.
M90
M100
M110
M120
M130
M150
M170
M190
Each of these have a different potential to increase fps.
In a stock gun, you can have anything up to an M110 with out any problems. When you get any higher then that, you need to upgrade your bearings, and get a stronger battery.

Also, depending on the quality of the stock gun, you may also want to get a new piston, and cylender.

If you start getting any higher then M130, then you need to get reinforced gears, and a reinforced gearbox. And probably a 10.8v battery which required low resistance wireing.

Basically, the stronger the spring gets, the more stuff you have to repace so your gun wont get torn up on the inside. I would say the max you could shoot with an AEG would be 500-600 fps.

Now in terms of gas...

The average green gas handgun can shoot anywhere from 200-350 Fps. The average red gas pistol shoots from 350-380.

However... I own a sniper rifle that originally shot green gas, but I had the mag drilled, and tapped, so that I can use a compressed air tank on it. The limit used to be 320, now its 600.

In conclusion, they both can be equally strong, you just have to do some work. Stock, I would say that an AEG ( a real one, not a knock off) Would shoot a bit faster then a GBB ( a green gas pistol)

it depends,

you can tell how powerful an airsoft gun is by its fps (feet per second). The higher the fps the more powerful it is. Some gas guns shoot at 215 fps but go all the way to 1000 fps (strong enough to make a welt wearing a ski parka). the same goes for electric guns, some have really low fps while others have higer fps.

In general gas is stronger than electric but there are almost no gas assault rifles, they arem ostly pistols and semi auto snipers. so usually an electric will best a gas in close combat because the shear volume of bullets it can fire at once.;

a gas is more powerful than an electric stock but an electric can be modded to be stronger.

so really it depends. the strongest gas guns are stronger than the strongest electrics but electrics have a higher rate of fire... straight up gas is stronger but electric will usually win the fight.
