I don't know what or how this happened, but at least two different programs are telling me, by messages and/or error codes, that I do not have the proper registry permissions. In one case, the program crashes. In another program, it stops with a "cannot read memory" error (but the error code is "insufficient permissions").

I am the only user on my PC, and I have admin authority. I went through the registry and made sure that my account had ALLOW and READ permissions for everything, as far as I can see. I am
running Windows XP SP2 Home. I don't know what else I can try. I've looked everywhere.

Anybody?

Thanks...

Andy

Hmm weird... this usually happens when there is more than one user on the system.
You could verify a few things:
go to the user accounts and turn off the guest account.
create a new test user and recreate the same situation to see if you are getting the error message.

Modify your registry by:
Start-Run-type in "regedit" and hit enter
when you registry opens, click in file and export.
This is to take a back of your registry before modifying it.
Save it on to your desktop.
You will have 4-5 entries below the main My Computer.
Right click on each on each of them and go to "Permissions".
Make sure that all the check boxes under "Allow" are checked.
Apply the changes and restart the computer.

if you are getting errors from just 2 programs but not all or some then its got to have something to do with those programs. You say one crashes and the other says something about memory, it sounds as though the two programs are trying to use the same resources or are just not able to run on the same system. This has occured with some programs in the past, for example an address cleansing program like those used at companies for bulk mail cannot run on the same pc as the shipping program due to the same resources being used for each program. Try uninstalling both programs, then re-install one and see if the problem persists, then install the second and see what happens. If the problem only occurs when both programs are on the pc then there you have it.

Windows XP is a class that Home Edition falls underneath, identical to Office Edition. I anticipate that when you have a CD for Home, then your OS is Home, however I are not able to be definite. You might take a look at booting it from the CD however I enormously advise, regardless of the predicament, that you simply wipe your tough force blank by way of a exact system after which reinstall the Windows variation that the computer runs on. There are steps to this on the internet, however it is plenty simpler to make use of a cellphone-assistant or a serviceman until of path you've gotten performed it earlier than. I'm now not too acquainted with the mistake message, so earlier than you are taking my recommendation, I advocate you take a look at an uncover out whether or not or now not a reboot demands to be taken for one of these malfunction. Good good fortune.
