no the media only focuses on the negative. I would bet that less then 1% of all media stories are positive.

Every older generation in the past has complained about the bad attitude of its youth. . . it's human nature.
That being said though, we are living in a time when youth is particularly disrespectful to authority (parents, teachers, police, governmental leaders). The amount of disrespectful attitude and language is amazing to us older folks - many of us truly did not act in that way when young. Mostly it's because we just were not allowed to. (When you hear a person say, "I would have been slapped by my mother for saying that!" they are not exaggerating)
However, I don't think we can blame the youth. The biggest responsibility goes to the people who raised (or weren't around to raise) our youth. A young person can't be expected to understand what he or she has never been taught.
Mass media contributes to it. Our youth learns more. . . and gets more guidance from. . . . tv, videos, CD's and their friends than from parental guidance. No wonder they learn that disrespectful speech and attitude is fine. . . they see it all the time!
Can our youth better itself? I think so. . . . time and history shows us that 'the pendulum swings' to one extreme and then the other. . . . we repeatedly go through several generations of disrespectful youth, and then we go through - as a reaction to it - several generations of excessively politie behavior. Then as a reaction to THAT we go back to disrespectful behavior. . .as so forth. . .
Also, I don't find youth lazy. I see many of them working hard. I think they lack a work ethic and discipline that previous generations had. . . but again, they can't do what they haven't been taught.
I still love young people!! They have so much to give, so much energy. WE all owe it to them to guide them to become the best people they can be.

Yes. It's completely true. Youth's have parents these days that get them more than they used to, so they don't work as much. They don't know the meaning of respect, forget how to be respectful. There are exceptions though, but the majority are depicted truthfully by media.

I agree with Mac. And when I hear someone say our youth are lazy, a hair stands up on my neck in defense. because the statement appears to be a verbal lashing from non appreciative under worked and overpaid minds. Thanks for the Q.
