If you want to buy your next generation console this year, buy an Xbox 360. It already has several excellent games out this year and is bug free due to being on the market for 12 months. I've also heard that Xbox LIVE (an on line gaming and video service) is free for 12 months with purchase, and many Xbox 360 combos sold at common retailers include a copy of Gears of War, this year's killer game. The 360 is also readily available at stores right now, you just have to walk in a buy one.
If you are buying a next generation console next year, wait till at least the summer before choosing the PS3 or Xbox 360. The PS3 launch has been underwhelming, but this may be caused by developers not understanding how to use the console yet. SONY has promised that PS3 games will look noticeable better in 2007, but I would wait until 2007 to actually compare the games.
Are you a fan of North American games or Japanese games? If you like North American games, buy an Xbox 360. If you like Japanese games, buy a PS3.

For raw processing power, the specs seem to favor the Playstation 3. This was not helped by the fact that Xbox has not shown much footage of its upcoming games while Sony practically barraged E3 attendees with about 2 hours of demos, real-time game engine samples and technology showcases. The Xbox, however, has the added bonus of its Live network integration which will allow an amazing amount of online real-time collaboration - all of which can occur concurrently with game play or other use of the console. And make no mistake, Xbox Live is very impressive on the 360. The new Xbox also includes a free Xbox Live Silver subscription, enabling users to experience some of the Live phenomenon without having to pay an additional monthly fee just to see what all the fuss is about. Microsoft's first to market approach and push for a central media center solution will be interesting to watch as consumers decide which direction to take in 2006. One thing is for sure, the face of gaming has taken yet another quantum leap and has been forever changed.

PS3 is supposed to be much more advanced than X-Box, but I'm pretty biased against Microsoft, as I have Sony and Nintendo systems, but no X-Box. The 360 had a TON of bugs when they released it last year, though (like overheating and locking up).
For my $$$ I'm waiting until I can get my hands on a PS3 and am resisting the temptation to get teh X-box 360.

PS3 is better. easily, in the long run, Xbox 360 graphics will be pushed to the limit, and PS3 will keep getting better. the PS3 is so much more powerful! another great thing about the PS3 is free online. in a couple years time, the price you pay for Xbox live will have bought a Playstation 3. Xbox does have a couple exclusives that will be good, HALO 3!!!!!!!!!!! will be awsome, but does that make it worth it to you? go to friends house to play halo 3. you'll save yourself a lot of trouble. the PS3 is your good choice, but don't f things up! get the nice PS3, NOT the cheap one! good luck and more importantantly, have fun!
