The weekend before Thanksgiving, my daughter had a garage sale of items she and her friends collected from people's curbs during brush-collection week. They had pick-up loads of computers, furniture, clothing, lawn equipment, mowers, TV's, ceiling lamps, etc. Some of the things were in perfect condition; others just needed a good cleaning. They had the sale for two days, and brought in over $1,000.00, enough to pay for the surgery her dog needed.
During their scavenger hunting, they met quite a few people who do this for a living. Some of them sell to flea markets, but most have their own sales or sell on ebay. I think given the right drive, some people can do well. It's nice to know that some people are helping keep the junk yards less filled.

Lots of stuff. I like to buy Blizzcon items. They are always going up in value. Also, I bought a Platinum label Barbie Doll. That means less than 999 were made worldwide. It's an Ethel Mertz from the Lucy Show Barbie Doll. Ethel is dressed as Santa. I love it. The value will continue to climb since there were so few of these made. I believe as do others that this is a great investment. What a great find!!! There are only a few still listed on Ebay and the price keeps increasing.

I recently met a man who runs an ad in the paper to take away your junk for free. He recycles the metal. keeps car parts to repair cars, etc. He will also cut down trees for the free wood. I don't know how well he does but he has a wife and child to support. He is tearing down an old barn for the vintage wood.

Probably would depend on where you live..
I have a friend who's father makes quite a bit of cash finding cars, boats etc et al... and fixing them up and selling them. A lot of times they have minor or cosmetic problems that are an easy fix for him.
Last one I heard was an Expedition that he picked up for 8,000.00 spent 300.00 in parts and sold it for 20,000.00.

yes. especially at auctions, and buying an entire yard sale out. but not estate sales because they are usually handled by an "estate sales" company.
