On a Map, 1 inch represents 20 miles. The distance between 2 towns is 6 1/5 inches. How many miles are actually between the two towns?

20 miles/inch * 6.2 inch

inches cancel out, answer is 124 miles

The 6 inches part is easy - 6 lots of 20 miles would give you 120 miles. You then have to find out how much 1/5 of an inch is - in other words, what is 1/5 of 20? 20 divided by 5 is 4 so the total is 124 miles...as the others said but perhaps didn't explain very well.

you need to divide 1 by 5 to get .2 so
6.2 x 20= 124
