I presume he took no breaks for lunch, dinner, or the occasional Nature call?
Think about it - if you start at 8:15, what time is it eight hours later? He'll get $80 for that. From that point, how many hours until 10:30 PM? He'll get that many hours (it'll have a fraction in it) times 15. Add those together and you've got it.

That's not math, it's not even maths or mathematics. It's called arithmetic and I was expected to work out sums like these when I was eight or nine years old, So much for the American Education system!

He did 8 hours at $10 per hour [8x10] and a further 6.15 hours at $15 per hour (time and a half) [6.15x15] so it should work out to $172.25.

$105.50 if you would come and work for me. Its only labouring and as you can't work out anything for yourself you would be an ideal employee.
It is actually $173.75
8hrs @ $10 = $80
6.25 @ $10x1.5 = $93.75 - yes it's 6 and a quarter hours not 6.15
$93.75+$80 = $173.75

14 and a quarter hours
10 x 14 1/4 = 142.5
6 1/4 x 5 = 31.25
142.5 + 31.25 = 173.75
He'd get $173.75

Looks like you are not the only one here who can't do simple arithmetic.
