I want to make wallhangings and I want the sheets of plastic canvas to look like one piece instead of several. And I don't want the pieces to be able to fold up.

The best way is to overlap the pieces by at least three threads (two holes). The work will have a small bump in it, but this is disguised by the thickness of the yarn.

If you don't want a bump, then place a strip at least four holes behind the work, and stitch through all thicknesses. The front will be flat, and the back will be the only part with a bump.
