i have heard it said that you should tip your mail carrier at Christmas time, if some one gives you a certain amount I'd ignore it! Is your mail carrier the same most every day? Is he or she friendly, does your mail arrive at the same approximate time every day? is it in good condition? Give you mail carrier a tip based on their performance and your budget. And find a way to be sure that your regular mail carrier receives it, not his replacement because he or she may very well be on vacation or a sick day. I think your great for wanting to give a gift to your mail person!

this comes up all the time -- if you don't know your mailman like most people who live in urban areas where they rotate them all the time then no you don't have to do anything.
on average 20-25 is a good ballpark figure. get em a gift card to somewhere like a grocery store. if you want to be stingy or more generous that is your business.

Give them a batch of cookies but NOT money that is like bribing the Govt and that is illegal I am NOT giving mine anything, due to have to go to Post Office which is about a mile away and he drives within less than a half a block from my home, but won't deliver on this street"it is out of route for him" and he doesn't want to "change" his route.

He gets paid to do his job and as far as I know the only people who get tips at their jobs make a lower wage to make up for the tips. Letter carriers make damn decent money so if I were going to tip him it would be a plate of cookies but not money.

We are on really good terms with ours so I made him his favorite Christmas cookies, put them in a festive tin and gave him a picture card with our kids on it. He has watched them grow up and has been our mail carrier since they were born!

I rarely see ours. And the few times I do see someone, it's a different person each time. So, no, they do NOT get a tip.
