While it can be annoying, you really shouldn't shoot the messenger. These people are basically following the policies of their employers and doing their jobs.

A 48 year old should be able to actually ask a question--even a grammatically correct one wouldn't be out of the question.
I don't think I've ever been offered a "bloody hand" with my packing. Where *are* you shopping!?! (Just kidding my obviously British friend...)
Seriously, in the name of "good customer service" companies are making their employees do all kinds of horrible and annoying things these days. They follow you around making suggestions or saying how great a product is--even if you just pause SLIGHTLY in front of something. They coo over your ever movement. It's shopping hell.
Unfortunately, being offered wrapping services (or packing help, if you must) is so ubiquitous these days you should just pity them for having to offer it hundreds of times each day. What a job, eh?
We feel your pain.

Which side of the bed did you get out this morning?
When you reach the check-out, it is not written on your forehead that you are 48 , fully able, and enjoy a rant about people who are only trying to help and are doing their job properly.
It is not a question of knowledge, and packing is not rocket science. However, there are others who are the same age as you who have medical conditions who prevent them from packing efficiently or quickly, and who are glad that someone offers them a hand so that they do not keep people like yourself queueing for ages behind them.
Remember that at your age you are no longer in your prime, have started going downhill -whether you have noticed it or not- and in another few years you may be glad of a little assistance.
Now that you have had your little rant, enjoy the rest of your day.

I prefer a hand with my shopping after all the price of the goods we buy include the wages and salaries of all those people factored in, just let them do their jobs.

I work in the pharmacy of a supermarket, but often help out on the tills, please dont have a go at the checkout girls, it annoys them too! We HATE packing for customers as its a tiring and boring enough job as it is, without having to pack as well.
We are monitored heavily as to what we say to the customers, we have to offer to pack bags, offer saving stamps, say hello and goodbye, always try to smile, etc.
If we dont, we get reprimanded for it, so have a heart, next time someone offers to pack bags, just remember they are trying to keep their job! Weve had staff sacked for not doing it, so give us a break!
And while we are on the subject of supermarkets,...
Will people please stop putting money/cards in their mouth before handing it to shop staff - would you like me to lick your receipt before handing it back? Hmmm? No, didnt think so.

I can't remember the last time any of the dim kids at my local Sainsbury/Asda/Tesco offered to pack a bag for me. Count yourself lucky that you were at least offered this service. Only worry if they place your eggs in the carrier bag first and then pile on the heavy tins and frozen bags of peas on top and you hear a combined squelch/crack!

I know they are doing their job and I applaud them for it. It's a shame they are being paid peanuts for it though.
It's the managers though that try and promote their storecards and magazines in clothes shops - I always say 'no thanks' yet so many of them look nastily at me afterwards! And what is so wrong with paying with cash?

Touchy....really touchy. At your age surely you should be over "the change" by now.
Poor employee has to put up with irritating characters like you all day and still keep smiling.
Give it a try and see how you like coping with people like you for a full shift.
