how do I check my firewall settings?

Right click on the firewall icon (Zone Alarm, or whatever you have) and select "restore control center."

Turn on the computer and say "Computer. Check Firewall Settings!"

or open Security Center in Control Panel (if you have XP)

if you don't use a personal firewall software, go to control pannel, then windows firewall
