I believe they did it on the principle of preserving his civil liberties vis-a-vis his right to privacy.

Will this make the heads of ACLU bashing conservatives explode?

Lamplighter - I think you just described the average ACLU bashing conservative. A moron who can't distinguish between rights and activities..

The ACLU defends the rights of pedophiles, rapists and Rush Limbaugh. They don't defend pedophilia, rape or verbal flatulance. They defend rights... no matter how vile the person may be who's rights are being infringed.

Anyone who can't distinguish between the two is a moron.

I also seem to remember something about Sean Hannity using the ACLU when he was banned from political radio in college. Pretty sure they got him back on the air but he held out for some reason or another. I doubt conservatives will ever remember when the ACLU fights for them, their leaders will throw that side of the story in the attic to never be heard again..

Other ACLU-hating conservatives that have been defended by said union include Jerry Falwell & Rev. Fred "God hates fags" Phelps.

If the ACLU will defend a chlid's right to an abortion without the parents consent, then they should have defended Rush. Same difference. By not defending him, then the are Being hypocritical.

I guess if Rush believes in treat others the way you'd like to be treated, the ACLU returned his treatment by not protecting him.

It's funny you think people that are critical of conservatives would have their "heads explode" over this. We find nearly everything you say hilarious. I watch Bill O'Reilly and laugh hysterically. The guy is so ridiculous it's funny.

People lambaste the ACLU when they are in favor of actions that destroy the Constitution.

The ACLU bashers won't give it a thought, literally, having so few to spare.

If the ACLU fights to protect an individual or group's rights that seem ridiculous or absolutely insane - don't kill the messenger, lobby or petition to change the laws that are "protecting" these dirt bags.

They should.

No, it won't. Conservatives (real ones) don't go for druggie big mouths.
