i own a repair shop, and the majority of mine are snap on,,but there too expensive,i also have some craftsman tools and some mac also but you,ll never just have all of one brand,,some makers like sears don't make some of the specialty tools you,ll need to work with,,so you,ll find your self with a lot of different brands in your tool box,,but that's alright,,as long as they get the job done that's what counts, and almost all tools now carry a lifetime warranty on them, and they all do as good a job as the expensive ones do,,so don't think you have to have mac ,,or snap on just to be a good mechanic,,good luck,i hope this help,s.,,have a good x-mas.

The hands down BEST tools are no longer Manufactured. They wer from a Manufacturer called New Britain. I have a 1/2" Ratchet of theirs that was made in 1957 (Cost new at the time was $50), it STILL works flawlessly and the ratcheting Mechanism is barely audible while using it. If you're lucky you might be able to find some of these tools in a pawn shop because someone thought they were a no-namer brand. Between Snap-On, Mac and Craftsman they all have a lifetime warranty, Snap-On and Mac are VERY comparable for quality each one has the edge on the other in certain categories. Craftsmen is well Alright, I guess I've got some Popular Mechanics Wal-Mart sockets that have been able to get the job done better than the Craftsmen stuff, Busted 3-9/16ths deep wells trying to remove a stuck nut, W-M PM's popped it right off as well as the other 3 that were rusted just as much

Considering reasonable price, craftsman is good, it also has lifetime warranty. Snap ons are for the pros and can be quite expensive. But if you're studying to be a mechanic or a regular weekend mechanic, it's a good idea to invest it a good set of basic tools and add on as you go. Chances are most people who are not mechanics will use it for the first 1-2 years and then forget about them.

I admire Ridgid brand tools for many reasons. I purchased my complete set at Home Depot. I am talking about the 18 volt set. I noticed in other tools if I left the battery still attached to the tool and the battery would go completely dead and needed to be replaced way too early. That is a very expensive habit, So I quit leaving the batteries in the tool. After purchasing the Ridgid brand set of tools I noticed it came with a very nice bag to carry the tools in it. Not a cheap bag but a very rugged one. Plus, they have Lifetime Batteries, Parts and Service for as long as you own the tools. The drill is the X2 which has more torque than my air wrench, what a shock that was to find out. It has a 30 min. Fast Charger but with the 4 batteries that came with the set you always have one in the charger so you'll never run out of batteries. If I were you, I would check out home depot or go online to the Ridgid website and see for yourself. I now have almost every tool they make. Not one problem and it's been over 2 years.

Snap on is the best because they really pay attention to detail with their tools. They go above and beyond what a tool is supposed to do, and make it better. (ex. there basic screw drivers have wrench attatchment nuts on them for extra leverage)But you also end up paying good money for them. And the lifetime warranty is nice. But if you want to go good tools with a budget and lifetime warranty, You can't go wrong with Craftsman, ever!

as a mechanic for over 20 years i can say snap on has the best hand tools (sockets ,ratchets, screwdrivers, extensions ect.) they also have the best scanners! ingersol rand has the best air tools, snap on has wrenches called "flank drive plus" that are unbelievable! i have had one set for 6 years and they still grip like new. but the set (8mm to 21mm) ran me $478.00. if your on a budget try home depot line "huskey" they are made buy the same company that makes snap on. avoid crapsman tools they are garbage. ya they will exchange them for life but how many times do you want to split your hand open because of a broke tool????? think about it and look at huskey.

Sears sells a good quality brand and they have almost anything you might need, also NAPA auto, I say these only because they are easily replaced or quick to find....SNAP-on is a very good tool but they are pricey and hard to get on a weekend

snap-on are the best, per se, but they're too expensive if you're just working on cars in your spare time. get craftsman. they're cheap, and they come with a lifetime warranty. if they break, they'll replace it for free without a receipt.
