My ideas:

1. Christmas mug with a little bag of coffee in it
2. A hocky jersey
3. Starbucks gift card
4. Barnes and Nobles gift card

Good Luck!

What about tickets for "two" to a Hockey Game? This way by etiquette he has to invite you along as his "date". Also, maybe you could get him a Barnes and Noble gift card as well. Ours here has a Starbucks in it so that would help the books and coffee part! As for law unless you have about 8,000 laying around for law books I can't help ya!

Doesn't Barnes & Noble have a coffee bar in their bookstores? Maybe a gift certificate (you go, too) tucked into a knit hat with the logo of his favorite hockey team (available on websites) ? Could be expensive and not very romantic.
But I bet he'd prefer a romantic note on the attached card -- guys can be obtuse about romantic gifts.

take him to hockey game and stop at starbucks along the way. Don't forget to have a copy of sports illustrated in the car (next to the hockey rules book)

A novel about hockey players who drink coffee and get in trouble with the law.

Seriously, last year I found this book called Kill All the Lawyers, about laws and lawyering in Shakespeare's plays. Your guy friend might like it!

Get him a gift card for Barnes & Noble, most of them have a Starbuck's in them. This way he can look for books and drink his coffee
