First of all, buy the extended warranty.

1) Keep it on 4 legs, keeping it on 2 legs or feet will increase the chance of disk scratching and the Xbox Disk reader screwing up on you

2) Keep it away from moist and over dry areas
3) Keep it away from dust and rugs or carpets.. etc
4) Don't buy a attachable cooler, it's just stupid, why hook up something that takes away power when it's already over heating?
Buy a separate cooler, the one like those mini fans to keep the air circulating
5) For your own safety, do not touch the Xbox 360 while its been running for a while, it gets bloody hot
6) Do NOT open the case, if you do, the warranty gets canceled
7) Keep it ventilated always, keep it in the open, not in between the DVD player and the Wii, or the drawer, keep it like in it's own little place where you know it'll get cool
8) Refrain from getting too angry and end up throwing your controller into your HDTV or worse, your 360.
9) Refrain from over playing as it could over heat the 360 causing it to burn out or start a fire, or worse, automatically shutting off (there is an option for this..) and losing your game on Halo 2 Legendary.... Scary ...
10) Always, and always, have fun and don't be a safety freak, however handle your Xbox 360 like a baby.. This thing has a higher chance of breaking then any other new consoles out there.
11) When you are about to download an update, go to the Xbox 360 forums on http://www.xbox.com and check if it's safe from other peoples opinions, their updates have caused the system to crash and well.. Destroy the system.
12) Don't keep the disk inside the tray after you're done playing, take it out gently, and put it in the case.
13) Don't shake your 360 or anything like that. You know.
14) Keep that power BRICK in a cool space, it's literally a BRICK, I think it's bigger then a brick and harder.. Pretty lethal weapon.. Seeing it's a HOT BRICK.
15) Don't over react to error messages, take a deep breath, try again, if it still doesn't work go to the forums but before http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/console/consoleerrors.htm, then go ***** about it on customer support ;)
16) For your own god damn health please just read and use your common sense... http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/resources/healthygaming.htm
17) Enjoy. But enjoy gently. OH AND DO NOT USE THE SPRAY BLOWERS, those dust removers where you spray pressurized gas or air... Don't do it.. Just don't...

Lay it on it's horizontal position since it has more surface area, it will be sturdier.

Keep it in a well ventilated area.

Buy a cooler to make the 360 lasts longer.

If you have a wired controller, try not to yank it.

Don't let anybody but yourself touch it.

Breaking How?

Whatever you do don't hit it with a sledge hammer, your car or your thick skull.

The 360 is mostly trouble-free, you will not damage it by playing games, leaving it on, or playing for hours at a time. (although you may go blind and get fat)

Remember how much you probably paid for it, and that hitting it as hard as possible with a hammer does not correct the system when you lose. ( I know this from personal experience with two of my PS2's, but I only paid a 100 for them each) But still a waster of money..
