I have three cats, a dog, three parakeets, a 55 gallon aquarium with two angel fish a pleco and an african cichlid (named meanie), and a 20 gallon aquarium with two goldfish, a black moor and two snails! All pets require food and water daily! The fish are the least trouble....only clean tanks once a month. The birds are the next easiest, clean cage once a week. The cats are the next in line, litter box needs scooped every night and changed totally once a week. The dog is the most difficult...he needs walked for an hour each day and needs to be let out several times during the day to go to the bathroom. As for affection, the angel fish and the goldfish notice my presence in the room. The birds talk and say hello and pretty bird and wake me up every morning at 6:30 (I think they got used to my alarm and have some internal clock...now they start whistling between 6 and 6:30 every day...no batteries required! The cats are great company and attune themselves to your moods and are great listeners! The dog is great for outdoor activity, loves to ride in the car and creates a sense of security/protection. Finally, dogs are the hardest to find someone to watch when you travel, cats only require someone to come in every other day if you leave enough food and water out, birds can be left alone for a week (provided that you have proper feeders and large water dispensers) and the fish can survive for two weeks without you provided you throw in time released feeding tablets (not the best but works if you can't find someone to keep an eye on them). I hope I have helped you choose your future pet! Good luck. Pets are a joy in life no matter what kind you choose.

I have:

8 dogs (1 Lab/German Shepard mix, 1 Pekingnese, 1 Rat Terrier, 1 dog that we still don't know its breed 0.o, and 4 pomeranians; we really had more than this, lol.)
4 birds (! cockatiel, 2 lovebirds, and one Indian Ringneck)
2 goldfish

In the U.S.A., the most popular pet has to be the dog, than after that, the cats.

I can't tell ya what the most popular pet is, but I can tell ya what the best are! They're mine!!! I have a cat and a house rabbit. they each have litterboxes, the cat has his bed (eventhough he would prefer mine) and the bunny has his "cage" (house) The door stays open and he jumps right up when he's tired or hungry.. or has to potty. They love eachother so much and love to play... all day long. They are the eaisest most humorus pets I have ever had. I love then both so much.
