USA There are benefits, but they are not huge financially. Insulating the exterior walls of the garage will help keep heat in, and help reduce the temperature variation, which will increase your comfort level. It will also create a thermal "buffer zone" between the garage and house. By helping to reduce temperature variation, you will not lose as much heat through the wall between the house and garage, reducing your energy bills (but not by hundreds of dollars per month). It will make the garage - temperature wise - more comfortable. That might be important if you spend a lot of time out there.

If you want to do a "permanent" job, you could put up 1" battens on the wall, 1" expanded polystyrene between them and cover with sheets of hardboard. A covering of polythene sheeting on the wall first would help keep out the damp.

25mm thick insulated plaster boards dabbed onto the walls with plasterboard adhesive, either plaster them or tape the joints with decorators tape and emulsion them,if you plaster them get a professional(recommended) a good d.i.yer should be able to make a reasonable job of taping the joints, stick the boards to the walls keeping the joints as tight as possible, cut the lengths of tapes to size to cover every joint & soak in diluted pva adhesive for 5 to 10 mins, apply board adhesive thinly to cover joints, apply tape over joints using your trowel, remove excess adhesive & smooth over with a wet paint brush, emulsion when dry (can use exterior stone paint ) its a good idea to leave a 25mm gap betweenn the floor & board in case of damp.
