Hamsters are fine pets. A female hamster is better than a male and neither require a lot of care and are fairly active...at night. A gerbil is perhaps another good choice, and require less care and are perhaps friendlier than a hamster. Both rats and mice have a rather strong odor but many people like them. All of these animals are available in different hair colors but I suggest not buying the white hamsters as they seem a little more willing to bite. Be gentle and don't try to hold them too tightly, they become afraid and bite. Gerbils have few health problems but the hamster is prone to wet-tail (diarrhea) and guinea pigs require more space, eat more (be careful to make sure it has plenty of Vitamin C) and are noisy (they quickly learn the sound of a refrigerator door) and more work.

You can have a hamster but take note of the following:
1) You must have their cage ready before you buy it
2)Hamsters survive longer in open cages (bars) instead of the plastic covered ones. Mine lasted almost 2 years.
3)Make sure the bedding is changed at least once a week.
4)never never never give them water in a cup. If you get a hamster wet they can die. Give them water with a water feeder.
5)Pick a lively hamster
6)They bite, hehe, but they'll get used to you. stroke them occasionally till they get used to it.
Enjoy your hamster!

Hamsters are good for anyone! Get a teddy bear hamster with a black head and white body. They end up being the sweetest. Mine never bites anyone no matter who it is!

that depends on who you are. Hamsters don't need as much attention as say, a dog or cat. They do need fresh food and water and they need their bedding (cedar chips) changed out. It is still going to be a responsibility.

they are pretty easy to take care of..

they sleep during the day, so you dont have to worry about being home or w/e with them all the time. they dont require as much attention as other animals. give them food, water, and an exercise whell they are good to go.

but just to warn you, they dont live really long. when i was 7, i had two, and they both died in like a month and a half or something like that. i took care of them good.
god did i cry lol

hamsters are not trainable and are not clean animals. This is just my opinion. Happy holiday.
