I myself bought a keyboard on amazon.com for $150. If you are really serious about buying a keyboard I would suggest buying one that has sensitive keys. Meaning if you press lightly it sounds light. It allows you to play with more feeling. If you don't get this kind, no matter how hard you press it will sound the same. As for the difference of keyboard and piano, keyboards naturally have less keys than a piano and they have alot more neat little functions and features than a real piano. Try to get a keyboard with at least 61 keys. Anyless keys and you will run into many songs you want to play that wont "fit" on your keyboard. Even with a 61 key I find myself having to give up on some pieces because I don't have enough room. I hope this helps. I thought of buying one with more keys but I am an amateur and this is something I am just trying out really.

You are probably referring to a digital piano. These can range from $600 to $5,000. I have a digital Clavinova (by Yamaha) and it was priced around $3,000.
If this is too pricey for you, start out with a full sized keyboard that is touch senstive. You can find those in music stores, and places like Best Buy. You're looking at around $300 for a good instrument.
Nothing really takes the place of a real, acoustic piano...but the digitals are getting better each year. On the digitals the sound you are producing is actually a recording of the sound! Here is a link about my piano that may answer your questions: http://www.yamaha.com/yamahavgn/CDA/ContentDetail/ModelSeriesDetail/0,,CNTID%253D59013%2526CTID%253D203500,00.html

Good luck!

You want a stage/digital grand. These are electric keyboards, but use hammer action key strikes to perfom like an actualy piano. These are the best artificial types of pianos to practice on. I highly do not recommend any touch response keys found on synths and the like.

Go for the 88 key piano, but they usually come in 3 sizes, 61 keys, 72 keys, and 88 keys. They also almost always come with synths, the most common, strings, grand piano, harpsichord, clavi, electronic piano. The price range is moderate, I've seen upright digitals for $800 dollars at musicians friend. But then again, I've seen a stage for 2000 dollars.

i have this totally sweet keyboard i got for about $1500... the keys are weighted exactly the same.. i was a yamaha. the only thing i don't like about it is that the sound quality is a little off from my baby grand. just go to a music/instrument store and ask for something that at least has a full set of keys and make sure the keys are weighted... you'll find what you're looking for soon enough.

Go for a digital piano, its small, almost feels the same and sounds great and you can have headphones. They start from 600 dolars from Roland. There is one on pianobible.com
