For Realist this is a washington post article
ATLANTA: An adviser to former President Jimmy Carter and onetime executive director of the Carter Center has publicly parted ways with his former boss, citing concerns with the accuracy and integrity of Carter's latest book, "Palestine Peace Not Apartheid."
The adviser, Kenneth Stein, a professor of Middle Eastern history and political science at Emory University in Atlanta, resigned his position Tuesday as a fellow with the Carter Center, ending a 23-year association with the institution.
In a two-page letter explaining his action, Stein called the book "replete with factual errors, copied materials not cited, superficialities, glaring omissions and simply invented segments." Stein said he had used similar language in a private letter he sent to Carter but received no reply.

Well, Carter's PR machine has been working to salvage his legacy.
It's funny to read answers from people who werent alive or were too high to remember his presidency.
Carter was the worst president ever. If it werent for Carter, we would be having HALF of the middle east problems we are facing today. Of that, there cannot be a SHRED of doubt.
He gave Hezbollah their first stronghold in southern Lebanon, he supported North Korea, too. If US relations were strained under the Shah of Iran, they went to hell under Khomeni, who Carter supported.
Jimmy Carter drove the US to the very BRINK of the worst recession since the Great Depression.
He's been lying since he left office to change the opinion that is simply a FACT. He was the worst US president in all of history.
If you werent there, you dont know.
Buying into the Carter PR machine and bashing Bush is a huge sign of not actually knowing anything about either presidency, and it shows a lack of intelligence and how easily led some people are.
Carter is, was and always has been a liar. Of course he lied in his book to distort history. He's trying to salvage his crappy legacy.
He was the WORST.
Those who have forgotten history are doomed to repeat it.

I think RKO was joking about Carter giving up re-election to save the hostages. That's pretty funny. I hadn't heard that one before.
Actually Carter was voted recently as the worst president in American history. He knew nothing about economics and put price caps on gasoline that caused gas lines the people from the 70's will never forget. He also caused the highest interest rates in our history. He froze during the Iran hostage crisis and proved he didn't have any ability to solve serious problems. I think that's when the American people realized for sure that he was a disaster as a president.
It certainly was no surprise when he was voted out of office in a landslide after only one term.
The American voters can tell a loser and will never give that person a second chance when they're that incompetent for their first 4 years.
As we all know, he's gone completely senile in the last 10 years or so, so we should feel a little bit sorry for him. Probably he wrote that book during a bout with dementia. It's sad because I think he's a fairly nice man, just an incredibly lousy leader.
He got a Nobel Peace prize for saying awful lies about the president. I think that's the only case of a former president slandering a seated president. In that respect, if he's not senile he must be an incredibly evil man.

Finally, I found someone of importance who shares the feelings I have had for years about the Israeli-Palestinian issue. We have blindly supported Israel for the past (almost) 60 years no matter what they do & who they hurt. It was our soldiers fighting side by side with the Israelis during the 6-Day War which pulled more land out from under the feet of the Palestinians. Where are they supposed to live. They are not Arabs; they are not Jordanians, they are Palestinians. Where were we all those 60 years when they were crying out peacefully that they were being mistreat- ed? Why do you think some of them behave like animals? We have left them no choice. We did not help them when they needed our help. Do we in the US realize that the bulk of our foreign aid $$ go to Israel when there are 3rd world countries with people dying of starvation & illnes by the 1000's if not 10,000's every day? It's more than sickening, it's criminal. Why is Israel's airport security 2nd to none, even better than our own? That's our American tax $$ at work, as well as Jewish American $$ being funneled over there. It's all the fault of the Jewish Lobby in Washington. They say jump & we jump. Do we realize that the reason for 9/11 was our unilateral support of Israel & the exclusion of the Palestinians? If you heard Bin Laden's speech on the Sunday immediately following 9/11, you heard him mention the Israelis & the Palestinians. This was the reason for 9/11. Until we decide to play fair with both sides & stop unilaterally supporting Israel not matter what they do & who they hurt, we can expect more 9/11's. President Carter is right when he equates Palestians with Apartheid.

Zionism is a kin to Nazism point blank. The jews in Isreal should be ashamed of themselves.
The land of "Israel" should be split in half. The northern half would be Palestine and the southern half Israel.
In the middle occupying Jerusalem would be the new U.N. HQ with a corridor that divides these lands from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea. Stationed there should be 200,000 man Rapid Reaction Force capable of delivering a serious smack down to ANYONE in the region that acts out of line.
This solution creates peace in the region and gets the U.N. out of New York .

Jimmy Carter is just an obsessive old fashion anti-Semite, and a fool.
Like the Arab terrorists he is so fond of, Carter is not beyond making things up to further his cause of bashing Israel.
Jimmy Carter puts the "nuts" in "peanuts"

Oh, or maybe most people already knew that Jimmy was just a loud mouth peanut farmer whose presidency made us long for another Warren Harding in the white house.

It's easier to rewrite history than it is to face the truth. Mr. Carter has spent any political credibility he had. He could have been an elder statesman, but has show himself to be what he is. A failure.
Just Curious...I was going to post your follow up, but you beat me to it....Thanks!
RKO...Yeah, he did a great Job getting the hostages out didn't he??? What did he do for the other 425 days??? Oh, I remeber...not a damn thing. Were you even around when he was president?????

Yeah maybe in his dotage he has plagiarized and mischaraterized or worse. But blaming Iraq on him is a bit of a stretch unless drugs are your input of choice...
Also, if you are weighing in the balance reprehensible acts, surely Carter's talent and getting Habitat for Humanity national recognition goes pretty far to establish his humanity. - That's assuming that valuing humanity is still viewed as a common good.
Having said that, have Mr. Bush's actions served humanity at all? I think the deaths and the sheer count of lost lives would surely serve to display that the responsibilities for the tragedies of the recent years lie solely upon the bloody feet of the current leaders as well as their most virulent defenders.

Better question: Why would he write this book?
Maybe in his dotage, he is realizing this whole Iraq/Iran problem could have been averted by him, if he would have stopped radical Islam in its infancy. Instead, he tried to be "diplomatic" with terrorists. Someone needs to write THAT book.
Maybe guilt is why he wrote the book. And the lies.
