I went to the dr. on a wed. I was 39 weeks. She asked if I wanted to have her on Sat. I was like, Ahh YEAH! Do I have that choice? And she said yes. At that particular hospital, they ask women who are at least 39 weeks, if they want to be induced. She thought it was a good idea since my blood pressure was sort of high the last 2 appts. Well, I was passing that mucus plug thing that whole week. It wasn't just one big "clunk" and that was it, it was a few days worth of passing it. Then on Friday, I started to see a little bit of blood. I didn't even think I was going to make it until sat. to be induced. I thought i was going to go in on Friday. I went in on Sat. at 3:00p.m. They started the IV at 4:30p.m. My contractions got unbearable by 10p.m. They gave me a pain med (not the epidural) at that time which I had a bad side effect from so they had to counter-act it w/anxiety meds. My doc broke my water at 1:30, the water was brown which meant, maconium (when the baby poops in the womb) I delivered at 5:39a.m. Sunday morning. So, what I'm saying is, maybe it wasn't blood that I seen, maybe is was my water slightly breaking and the red/brown spotting was maconium. You may want to call your dr. just to make sure your water isn't breaking. They say that when there is maconium in the womb, the baby is over due to come out. In my case, i was 39 weeks too. Pay attention to the color of your "blood". It may be brown. Anyways, my baby was rushed to the NICU and had to stay there for a week because she swallowed the maconium. She is totally fine now. I'm not saying this to scare you, i'm just telling you what happened to me. Your blood may not be blood after all. I'm sure everything will be just fine. To be on the safe side, call your Dr. cuz it is almost time girlfriend, and it could be now. Just do it. They don't mind. Believe me, they see some women 4 or 5 times w/false labor and they are not going to care that you call because you see blood and your 39 weeks. you could very well be going into labor. Good luck and God Bless you all! Merry Christmas!

From A L&D RN It's called bloody show. When your cervix starts to dilate the mucous plug comes out look for this. But it could start up to 2 weeks early. Contractions are your best indicator of labor. time them when they last for 15 to 30 sec and are about 5 min apart go to your doctor or call them if it is after hours. If you can still joke and smile it probably is not time.

You should call your doctor and let him/her know you're having a bit of blood. I wouldn't be too worried, though. Slight bleeding toward the end of your pregnancy is completely normal as your cervix opens and all of the blood vessels start to burst. That's only because your cervix fills up with so much blood during your pregnancy.
But definitely call your doctor because it could be a couple of other things and it's so important you're better safe than sorry. Good luck!!

You may have passed your mucous plug which is normal. This means labour will commence at any time. When your water breaks and or your contractions become regular like every 10-15 minutes go to the hospital. Congratulations.

It is definitely normal when you are getting so close to your due date.
I also recommend calling your doctor to let them know you are spotting, it may be sign that labour is going to start soon!
Congrats and Good Luck!

it may be your mucus plug that has come out. When you go into labour you will know, it is like all the worst period pains you have ever had in your life combined, you really can't mistake it for anything but labour.

Go get checked tonight. Bleeding is usually a sign that something is wrong, unless you are actually having the baby. So, go get checked.
