If tax was 10% the book would be $88 and you would receive $12 change, so right off, you know the answer is more than $12. But the 8.25% tax is $6.60 and the total is $86.60 so your change is $13.40.

The answer would be $13.40

$80.00 x 8.25= $660 (move decimal over 2 places to the left because it looks sensible) $6.60
$80.00 + $6.60 = $86.60
$100 - 86.60 = $13.40

Cost after sales tax = (108.25/100) x 80 = $86.60

Change = $100 - $86.60 = $13.40

(80 X .0825)= 6.6 the total amount of tax
add tax to original price 80 + 6.60 = 86.60 (price plus tax)
100 - 86.60 = $13.40
