...so that when you withdraw 100 dollars, you don't get 20x5 = 100, but you get 1000x5 = 5000 dollars, but the computer still shows a withdrawal of 100? What would you do?

Look at it. Sigh. Look at it again.

And then go to the bank to tell them. My conscience would get to me, not to mention the fear that they'd somehow know it was me who got that extra money and come tracking me down. And there's always the hope that they'd reward me somehow for doing the right thing . . .

But I'd want to keep it so badly. I've been in similar situations, though, (with much less money, but still a lot) and have always alerted the people that they made a mistake.

I would head for a coin dealers shop or a coin show. 1000 bills are still legal tender but aren't made anymore for general circulation. A crisp $1000 bill can retail for mor than 3 times face value to a serious collector. As for the ethical point of getting too much cash. Sell the bills and return what is owed to the bank.

Since 1000 dollar bills aren't in circulation I'd be very suspicious.

Dance around for like 2 minutes, then my conscience would make me call the bank.
