Hi! Carpal tunnel means the median nerve is pinged in the wrist (=carpal tunnel). Median nerve goes to thumb and index and middle finger, both feeling and motor. So: if you have a full blown carpal you have sensory decline =less feeling on the palmar saide of your thumb+index+middle. If the motor part is affected you can test by try keeping little finger and thumb together and ask someone to pull them apart -with normal strength this usually does not succeed. The pain is usually also in the same area. often in the morning as the impingement gets worse at night -and working repeatedly moving your wrist can also provoce and endocrin. conditions like pregnancy or thyroid problems.
But maybe the problem is in the writs -inflamed? =swollen, tender, red, hot, does not function properly? or ??-on the basis of your story it is impossible to tell so going to a doctor may be a good idea to get a diagnosis and therapy .
all the best

Here's a couple easy tests that the doctor will do on you when you go in to have it checked:
1) With your palm facing you, tap hard on your wrist tendons; if you feel tingling or shock-like pain shooting into your thumb, pointer, and middle finger then it's possible - this is called the Tinel's sign
2) If you place your hands so that the backs of each hand are pressed against one another (keep your fingers relaxed) and hold them in this position (forearms and hands should make a T in front of you) for about a minute and you feel either pain or numbness in the same fingers I described before, then it's likely you have carpal tunnel - this is called Phalen's sign

About 6 years ago at the age of 39 I was sitting at my desk at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. For a few weeks I noticed my dominate or my right hand had the same problems you described. I thought it was the same and so to give my right hand a rest I moved my mouse to the left side of my keyboard. It felt funny but I was back in motion again. Amazing how coworkers picked up on that and because I held a lot of meetings in my office I would open my computer to each attendee if needed. MAN they complained about the left handed thing.
So a month later I was doing my retirement physical and just happened to mention it to the doc. They also thought Carpel tunnel. But I was getting ready to move back to the US and retire after a little over 21 years of service. My daughter, 12 at the time was diagnosed with TB. ????? Where did that come from. We cried she cried even harder but was treated and is fine. So that took the attention off my hand. So cutting 6 months out of this story. I was fired from 2 very important civilian jobs because I could not keep up or meet time requirements. After nearly a year of agonizing insults and accusations of being lazy my 3rd neurologist said I THINK IT MAY BE EARLY ONSET PARKINSON'S.
2 years of depression, doing better but hate the fact that I cant get my body to keep up with my still YOUNG, EDUCATED, FAST PACED brain. I don't want to cause any undo stress but ask all the questions you can and get all the referrals you may or may not need to rule this out. As with me they kept testing and eliminating every other possible diagnosis.
What I noticed in myself was a feeling of being submerged in quicksand and not only was I slow but it took increasingly more power and effort just to do simple things. I also seemed to trip a lot more and had a slight balance problem.
I am not a medical person and these are only my observations of my own life and what a small percentage of my long list of doctors have told me.
So making milk shakes YEA BABY! Solderng wires together like I used to I DON'T THINK SO.
So - ask this question to your doctor and no matter how rushed he or she might seem. STOP AND ASK. Probably nothing but early detection and THE UNDERSTANDING of your family is key here.
I still fight well not any more I just listen as I still get the comments of get the heck out and get a job. But I am coping. I do a lot of useful things and help people and make a few bucks selling things I make or repair.
Oh what the heck - This is for you! stop reading, or at least read what others may have to say. Any input is useful. But take all of what you may learn in this forum and set a meeting with your doctor.
And remember this - Always aim for the heavens. Because even if you miss you will still be among the stars.
Best of luck.

Numbness can be a sign of carpal tunnel. Go see a doctor. if its getting numb, its probably more advanced and you've let it slide too long. Go get it taken care of before it gets worse. You dont want to have to have surgery.

Pregnancy and use of birth control pills can cause carpal tunnel symptoms. Have you hurt your arm or wrist recently? If it doesn't go away soon, you should see a doctor.

I would totally go see a doctor immediately. Asking on yahoo seems kind of dumb for something as serious as this.
