Every player is over-rated in the video games! It is simply not reality in the video games, for instance they can not account for family factors that affect a player's game.
But otherwise, Scholes is definately not over-rated. He is one of Man Utd's key players. The fact that he and Giggs are still there, while others like Keane, Beckham, Butt, Van Nistelrooy, etc were allowed (even forced!) to leave by Sir Alex, is an indication of Scholes' class.
Despite the fact that age is catching up with him, Scholes remains one of the best midfielders in the Premiership with great passing ability, hard tackling and the habit of scoring crucial goals at vital times against quality opponents.
PS: Consider that Steve McLaren would like a 33 year old to come out of retirement. That alone speaks volumes of Scholes' ability as a footballer. Plus, he is one of the nicest human beings too...such a shy fella'!

That's a good question you got there, Scholes undoubtedly played an important role during his reign at Man Utd setting up countless goals and scored a handful as well. Scholes rarely get rated so I can't see how he is overrated or underrated. But what is a fact is that he's losing form as age is slowly catching up with him. He no longers makes those deadly passes or scores from 20 something yards. If you want to see overrated players, look at Lampard,Ronaldo,Rooney,Gerrard and notice how much headlines they make compared to Scholes then you'll know if a player is overrated or not.

Honestly I think you need to watch all Man Utd matches, with Scholes in the team, to say something like that. Saying that he's overrated it's like saying Stevie G love Everton!!!!!! Which is NO WAY/IMPOSSIBLE.
I remember 1999 CL Final, Man Utd against Bayern Muenchen, Scholes played important part in that game. And it's one of little good performance of him that I watched and I believe Man Utd fans will tell you the rest.

One of the best players there has been, until he got so old he very rarely had a poor game. He's the best passer of his generation, even the likes of Beckham and Ronaldo have expressed their amazement at his ability. They don't call him satnav for nothing. The reason for some of his poor international displays and retirement was that he was sick of being played out of position then being used as a scapegoat. If you truly have watched a lot of PL games and understand football, you would not even be asking this question.

Scholes and Claude Makele almost fall in the same Category. Quiet but doing the job so well. I personally think he is not overrated. He gets what he deserves.

He does a lot off the ball as well so of course he will never have as much flair.
But he is a great player and having him back at his best is a critical reason why United are tops of the table.

Henry: "I can’t understand why Scholes has never won the player of the year award. He should have won it long ago. Maybe it’s because he doesn’t seek the limelight like some of the other ‘stars’."
Zidane: "Scholes is undoubtedly the best midfielder of his generation", "My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder."
Guardiola: "Out of everyone at Manchester United, I would pick out Scholes – he is the best midfielder of his generation. I would have loved to have played alongside him."
Edgar Davids: "I’m not the best, Paul Scholes is."
Mourinho: "Why isn’t he playing for England? It is crazy. Only in England. Scholes is a great, great player. So experienced and still, for me, one of the best in the world in midfield. Manchester United are lucky to have him."
Viera: "The player in the Premiership I admire most? Easy – Scholes"
But my favourite quote one from XAVI HIMSELF: "In the last 15 to 20 years the best central midfielder that I have seen — the most complete — is Scholes. I have spoken with Xabi Alonso about this many times. Scholes is a spectacular player who has everything. He can play the final pass, he can score, he is strong, he never gets knocked off the ball and he doesn’t give possession away. If he had been Spanish then maybe he would have been valued more."
