gently set toilet down put pressure on it till it sets on the floor and hand tighten the bolts. you will probably have to re tighten a couple of more times to seal properly.

Before you set the wax seal on the 'horn' of the toilet, check a few things:
- the floor is both level & flat in both directions. Shim any gaps with thin strips of hard plastic. (Wood shims will rot.)
- make sure the floor drain flange does not directly contact the underside of the toilet base before the wax seal is fitted. Any interference or high spots can concentrate force on a small area of the porcelain and cause it to crack.
- I apply a strip of plumber's putty along the entire rim of the bottom of the toilet where it will sit on the floor. This fills any gaps.
- when you make the final alignment and installation of the toilet bowl, use washers between the nuts and toilet base. Some toilet kits include plastic snap cover pieces that also act as washers - the plastic will provide some relief from overtightening.
- finger tighten the nuts, check for level, then snug them down no more 1/8 turn more with a wrench or pliers.
- lightly coat the threads and nuts with petroleum jelly so they will resist rust.
- remove any excess plumber's putty if you used it.

Good luck.

It should be snug enough not to move.
1. Only hand tighten, don't use a machine to tighten it.
2. SNUG is the magic word.
3. Also, make sure the fitting below the gasket is not cracked (the fitting screws into the floor).

Hope this helps.

sit on the toilet for a while to squish the wax ring. then run the nuts down a little past finger tight. u might have to tighten them again in a day or two

Set it down carefully, and when you tighten the bolts, tighten them only finger tight or just beyond--otherwise, the pressure will crack the base. Good luck!

push down on it where the lid bolts down, tighten it down some, then push down in the same place. dont try to pull it down with the bolts. make sure the wax gasket is at least sixty degrees, and dont get in a hurry.
