Three places to visit :

1.Jacmel :South of Port-au-Prince, the southern peninsula comprises many beautiful cities. One of them, Jacmel is a quiet city but full of charm. Its population is estimated at 15,000. The city has not changed much since the late 19th century. It has mansions were built in the New Orleans Style by wealthy merchants of the city. The city’ s name derives from an Indian word which means “rich land”. Jacmel is one of Haiti’s prettiest cities with a natural charm. The Manoir Alexandre, now a guesthouse offers one of the best views of the city from its upper veranda facing south. The main square is very busy and while seating at the Hotel de la Place restaurant for lunch, you can enjoyed your surrounding, the Victorian architecture of the city. The port of Jacmel is the country’s prettiest and was a booming coffee port during the late 19th century.

2. Citadelle:
The Citadelle Laferrière is a large mountaintop fortress located in northern Haiti, approximately 17 miles south of the city of Cap-Haïtien and five miles uphill from the town of Milot. It is the largest fortress in the western hemisphere, a United Nations World Heritage Site, and a testament to Scottish engineering genius as the architect was the Scottish engineer Ferrier.

The massive stone structure was built by up to 20,000 workers between 1805 and 1820 as part of a system of fortifications designed to keep the newly-independent nation of Haiti safe from French incursions. The Citadelle Laferrière was built several miles inland, and atop the 3,000 ft. Bonnet a L’Eveque mountain, in order to deter attack and to provide a lookout into numerous nearby valleys. It is possible to view Cap-Haïtien and the adjoining Caribbean Sea from the roof of the fortress. Anecdotally, it is possible to sight the eastern coast of Cuba, some 90 miles to the west, on clear days.

The fortress was outfitted with 365 cannon of varying size, and enormous stockpiles of cannonballs still sit in pyramidal stacks at the fortress's base. Since its construction, the fortress has withstood numerous earthquakes, though it was never assaulted by French forces.

good point, Haiti is very corrupt. The rich want to stay in power so keep the poor uneducated and poor. Then the poor get desperate and turn to violence. France, Canada and the US have done a lot to help, Many of the UN people there recently were from Brasil.

More people have AIDS in Haiti than land-line phones - look at https://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/ha.html

Visit the beach, Port-au-Prince and the French fort still there
