The pros and cons are the same regardless of which large city you're in. The pros include less gas usage than a car, more parking options than with a car, the wind in your face, being out there with nature and the general excitement of riding. There really are no cons that I know about. The death scare thrown out as a con is not valid. Life is a risk. You never know when the grim reaper will nab you. Taking risks is a part of life. Don't let that stop you from experiencing the joy of riding a motorcycle.

California is the only state that allows for motorcyclists to split lanes (go in-between traffic), and gives rules for doing so. This is EXTREMELY helpful when going through rush-hour traffic. It'd be great to have this in Texas (I just moved to the Houston last year from LA, cheap houses, no helmet law, crappy traffic, nothing to do). I used to shave my 1 hour commute from West Hills to Santa Clarita down to 30 min. Of course, gas is much cheaper, too.

I find when I ride, I'm much more aware of my surroundings. There's less distraction (radio, cellphone, passengers, etc.). You're not just sitting comfortably in a cabin; you're braving the elements, which makes you more awake and aware (like sticking your head out of the car window). You're also a much smaller vehicle than a car, so when a car edges into you, you have room to maneuver away from the car without going into the next lane.

The pros would be saving on gas.

The cons would be all the other people on the road that are driving cars.

pros: buying a 5-10,000 bike so you can save 20$/week on gas. and still have to own a car just to do your groceries.

Pro: You get there faster and spend less on gas
Cons: you are a target, you can die, you can get crippled, people are in a hurry and don't look closely before changing lanes, kinda hard to bring groceries home.....
If you get one, get a loud one so people know you are there!
