Depends on what Mr. Marino wants to give! If they, after careful discussion, agree that 18% of $52 is the appropriate gratuity, then she would ideally calculate 18% of $52.
Unfortunately, nobody brings a calculator to a restaurant, so she would probably do the usual trick: Divide by ten, multiply by two and adjust. $52 divided by ten is $5.20, multiplied by two is $10.40. Since she wants to be below the 20%, she would leave either $9 or $10 dollars, depending on the smile from the waiter when he handed her the check.

Who in their right mind would leave an 18% tip??? 5, maybe 10 is reasonable, but why pick an obscure number like 18? Just throw down a V note and get out of the restaurant.

If the waiter doesn't need to split the tip with anyone he would get $52.00x .18= $9.36

By checking my shorthand work, the tip comes to $9.36. The total of the dinner is $61.36 in case you needed to know that to.

$9.36 (52 times 1.18 equals $61.36 minus the $52 for food)

take the original price..($52)... take the percentage of tip.. and move the decimal to the left twice... so it would be in this case.. (.18) put a 1 in front of the decimal (1.18) and multiply 1.18 and 52...
then thats your answer..
do it like that to any tax question... or percentage stuff.
