Enlightened, secure men aren't afraid to associate with or befriend gay guys.

It's only taboo among those who are so ignorant that they think a gay guy is any less of a man, and who are so unsure about their own masculinity that they're afraid it'll rub off.

I guess some people never outgrow their fear of catching "cooties."

It's not taboo, it's fear. Straight men don't want the other straight men to see them with gay men because they are afraid that they might be also gay. A real man isn't worried about what others think. If a man is truly secure in himself, he doesn't have anything to worry about. If the "Straight" man isn't secure, and might have gay issues, then he will go to great lengths to hide the fact that he other people might think he is gay. I think most men are hiding the fact that they do like men in some way, but is too much of a p-ussy to admit it. That's why gays come out. They are the real men because they are facing reality head on. Most straight men are hiding behind this macho facade, afraid to have an emotion of any kind.

Taboo? Really? But it's charming...

Most straight men who hang out in this section like gay people. Hmmm... Try Religion and Spirituality section.

The taboo is being gay. Because gay is bad, heterosexual men do not want anyone to mistake them for being gay. Not all heterosexual men, of course.

The taboo against being a lesbian is not nearly as strong as being a gay man. Hence, heterosexual women are not as hung up about having lesbian friends.

I never heard that it was. Maybe its straight men who think other men shouldn't like gay people. Most men seem to be homophobic - at least the ones I know.

I think if you asked that to my straight male friends, they'd say, "Taboo? What taboo?"

Because most straight men aren't completely straight - once in their life, even if for a fleeting second, they were attracted to a male. Even if it was by accident. And this scares them to death, so they push it away for the rest of their lives.

I dont think it's taboo to be 'cool' with someone who is gay. but the bottom line a staright man hanging out with gay people isn't goona happen because 'gay' activites are in direct conflict with a staight man's sensibilities. It's like a Nancy Regan hanging out with Whitney Houston --hell to the nah!
