We already pay for the defense of the continent and the rest of the other two countries problems as they do some of ours I am sure.... why not bring in a couple more states into the Union?
It has been 60+ years since we added a state. Why not Guam, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Canada?
They would be treated just as regions of our country now. We would just have a greater base of natural resources, more influence over some of our problems that escape over those borders. We already annexed half of Mexico anyway.
Why not? whats wrong with it... All I see is a win win for the US and our neighbors as well. We all lose a little sovereignty, but not much. The southern states still have a cultural sovereignty that cannot be denied. So will the other areas of the US, Canada, and Mexico.

Michael, first off Canada would never accept becoming a State in America. The last thing you want is 35 million pissed off Canadians! Remember, the only country to defeat the United States in all out war was Canada, or do they not teach you that in school?
There was a meeting in Banff Alberta Canada earlier this year with Rumsfeld and Day, the Canadian public safety minister. Their discussion was on a North American Union with all three countries, The U.S.A., Canada and Mexico. This meeting was held in secret and no mention to the populations of any of the participating countries was given in advance.
The NAFTA agreement is one thing, a complete union of all three countries will never occur in you’re or my life time, as many people in all three countries will not accept this.
Canada is currently building her Military in anticipation of a conflict over the high artic with the United States. This is Sovereign Canadian territory and will become a very hot issue in the very near future. The resources in the artic, the Northwest Passage are becoming two very big flashpoints that are in the infancy of development. Canada has stated that this is Canadian territory and will take all steps and measures to protect it, period.
For anyone considering the kick their asses approach, remember, Canada is a nuclear capable Nation and can deploy very rapidly.
Canada is also the only country in the world that is self sufficient and exports more resources that she uses. Canada needs no one. Everyone needs Canada.

I've heard about these meetings b/w Bush, Fox, and whoever the Canadian guy was, before this new one. It's sort of happened with NAFTA, our reluctance to accept a border and stop illegal immigration. So I'm sure, more subtle attacks on our sovereignty will occur.
