Check out "The Silmarillion" by J.R.R. Tolkien. It features the mythology of Middle Earth. The Silmarillion are three invaluable jewels, made by an elf named Feanor using light from the Two Trees of Valinor which were the predecessors of the Sun and Moon. These jewels were later stolen by the Dark Vala named Melkor. This led to war between Elves and Melkor's forces. Of course, the Elves don't stand a chance without the intervention of other Valar (think of them as gods.). The Silmarillion are later lost.
