I think this is a hard to answer this question honestly unless we've lived in every country and experienced it, and then compared it to others.
Otherwise you're just going to get the answers of the country the person lives in, because thats all they know. Visiting another country as a tourist doesn't exactly count as experience.
I can't answer the question because I've only spent time in less than 10 countries. The US is closer to the bottom from my experiences, and it is my home country.
Even after all of this, there is no overall "best" or "worst". Some countries are better at some things than others, but it is not an objective question, it all boils down to personal taste.

In terms of health, France is at the top of the list, according to the WHO (World Health Org).
Uruguay was the first country to let women vote, and everyone is required to vote (even if a no-vote), so that's right up at the top, too. They also have all health & education paid for all.
Switzerland was one of the only countries to enstate a law that there must be a place that even very vulnerable people can live without suffering terribly; e.g., the govt required at first locations where people w/ electromagnetic sensitivity (EMS) could survive w/o cell phone & other harmful EM radiation. Switzerland also tried hard to keep out hazardous genetically modified food imports from the US.
Japan refused to accept US beef when it became clear there was no way to ensure that it was free of chronic wasting disease (which becomes Mad Cow disease in humans); so that was wise.
Germany govt ministers were among the first to expose publicly that 911 was an inside job - very courageous!
The US is very strong on protecting people from other's harmful cigarette smoke.
Lots of good countries out there working to make life better! I wish we would all work harder together toward LIFE!

I'm sure that most people have a natural love for the country of their birth, and I'm no different. I love the USA. I know that we've got many problems and lots that needs improvement, but we are blessed beyond all measure by what we have here. I am ridiculously, sentimentally patriotic and I love America.

I know this sounds unpatriotic, but America is falling apart. There's more crime evry day, and we get worse presidents by the hour....
Anyway, I think Germany has my (vote?), because it has little crime, barely any driver's license age, no speed limit, free college for good students, and a deep WORKING educational system. My deepest apologies for any Americans I may have offended.
Also note to rotc909; Alaska is in the U.S.

Best in economy: USA
Best in Military: USA, but Russia has more weapons. Ours is just more accurate
Most wealthiest: Luxemburg
In about 50 yrs China will outrank us, it's economically showing that status.
Personally, in my opinion, I love Norway. A lovely country in my opinion.

it has yet to be discovered. no country is perfect. solution....buy an island where you can just lay on the shore, and not have to worry about war, religion, paris hilton and other dramatic behavior that makes the world go round.
