Sounds like there's a leak in your coolant system or the gagues are malfunctioning. My friend has a 2005 Spectra5 and he has been having problems with the check engine light. Apparently it's a software problem that he's waiting for the manufacturer to have a fix for it.
My recommendation is to take it into the dealership right away, perhaps even have it towed in just in case it may cause damage to the engine to drive it as is.
A suggestion when you have a brand new car, you should not take it on long freeway trips (i.e. do not let the engine set at a fixed engine speed including idle) for more than 10 minutes at a time until you have 500 miles on it to allow it to properly break in first.

I have owned several cars. They include Fords, Chevys, Mercedes, Morris, Fiats, Dodge, VW. I have clocked almost a million miles altogether with them. I bought a Kia Spectra about a year ago because they are known to have less manufacturing defects than Ford. As a general rule, Koreans and Japanese cars are far less trouble prone than Fords. I am a Manufacturing/Design Engineer and an automobile enthusiast. I am happy with my choice. I drive 110 to 260 miles a day to work in it. Never had a problem. I made this choice because it meets my requirements such as reliability and low operating cost. Yes safety too. In the past small Fords are not that durable. The large Fords are better built. I may not be comfortable to invest on a small Ford yet. The Focus may look impressive to many however I am more impressed with durability, safety and low operating cost. Cheer up you did well!

Brand new vehicle. Couple of possibilities. Maybe the radiator wasn't filled all the way. The cooling fan may not be coming on or coming on late. Defective fan or perhaps defective cooling sensor. To the dealer it goes. Why should you car what the problem is you should have a warrantee. New car, right?

take it back to the dealer and explain the problem to them and have a mechanic look at it and start a paper trail showing you took it to them on this day for that complaint with x miles , that way they will not be able to let it slide through the warranty period , some dealers still treat women poorly so dont let them push you aside , dont be rude ,just firm , good luck , hope its minor

It's under warranty, Thank Goodness.
Take it back to the dealership's service department.
Make sure that it is not low on antifreeze or it could overheat on the way.

Well your first problem is you bought a KIA. I'm a mechanic and those things are nothing but problems... I hate working on them, I'd buy a new car.
