Where I live, the winters can get really cold. Temperatures can be 30 one day and then -1 the next. I wake up at 6 in the morning for school, and when I start getting ready for school, I am freezing! My bed and blanket are super warm, but as I get out and get dressed, my clothes are cold and I end up hiding in my bed to get warm. By unwritten family rules, my older sister always gets the quilt in the morning. I often just wear my winter coat instead, but it gets really uncomfortable to shuffle around in a big coat.
My question is, what can I do to stay warm? I always wear warm fuzzy socks to bed, but I don't have any super warm pakamas. Please help, I am so cold!

Staying warm is in all essence is an art for me, I don't believe in getting cold. After all I spent almost 30 years in Alaska outside so I know cold. I suggest you drink more water, most people today are on the verge of dehydration, which makes them more susceptible to the cold. Second wear layers of clothing, and the layers should be a tee-shirt, next to your underwear which I assume to be bra and panties. Then over your tee-shirt I suggest a very warm shirt or blouse as would be your case. Then a nice vest with a collar, button your vest up all the way to stop your body heat from escaping around your neck. Then put on a hat for a vast amount of body heat escapes from your head so keep your head covered up. Put on a good pair of panty hose for they can really help in keeping you warm, then a nice pair of warm pants with a nylon cover to stop the wind. Do this and you'll stay warm. It isn't very fashionable, but as was my case I had to decide do I want to look good or stay warm. Because staying warm meant laterally living or dieing for me. Next I'd buy some different pj's, I'd buy something warm and thicker than what I'm sure you now wear at night. To stay warm means you have to spend money on staying warm. Oh and before I forget your vest should be a good quality goose down vest, you can pick one up at an outfitters or REI. Good luck, stay warm because the art to staying warm is to do just that, stay warm, because once you get cold it's harder to warm up, stay dry, and keep smiling.

Throw your clothes in the dryer for about 10 minutes before putting them on. Or...moving is a nice idea...the further south, the warmer it is. But if moving is not an option, as I am sure it is an unlikely option...buy another quilt...or make another quilt, or have someone mail you a wool blanket from Mexico...those are really warm.

When you get ready for school, you probably spend most of you time in the bathroom. Shut the door and and turn on the shower with hot water. The steam will keep you warm wile your getting ready.

When I am cold I always wear a hood. If you are wearing a jacket, wearing the hood will keep you so much warmer because it will help to prevent heat from escaping through your head (where the most heat escapes.) Try it, I swear it works.

warm you milk at breakfast and eat some pork sausage & butter.
Put on scarf before coat, so warm air does not go out around your neck.
if the coat is too large for you, get a belt to keep wind from getting under it.

Put something on your head, like a stocking cap. You lose a huge percentage of your body heat from your head so keeping it warm is very important.

What about an electric space heater? I always use one in the morning. I keep it in the bathroom to heat the bathroom nice and toasty for my shower.
