Yes. SCSI adapters can have up to 9 internal drives I believe.
You can also buy tertiary IDE adapters that will add 2 or 4 more IDE channels. A Tertiary IDE controller will allow you to have 6 IDE drives. A primary and secondary on the motherboard, and a tertiary and quaternary on the extra controller card.

Not really, a motherboard has either EIDE or SATA connections or even SCSI for servers but you can buy cards to put in a PCI slot which will act as a hookup and controller for the drive

You can buy a IDE-to-USB converter.It is very cheap and works great.It will turn ur internal HDD into a USB HDD!It is also a good way than buying expensive external HDD.By this way, u can add as many HDD as you want because u can also increase ur number of USB port by using USB hub(cheap too).

Yes, but why? Most PC's nowadays will accept 4 PATA and at least 4 SATA devices, so that's a total of EIGHT. You actually needed MORE? I doubt you even that that many drive bays in your case. :)
