It seems when I have multiple windows of the internet on or if I am trying to download something from a p2p client then my dsl connection turns off.

Your P2P client is using up too much bandwidth. Most now will let you set a nice limit to keep your net responsive, but it takes a bit of trial and error.

uTorrent is nice in that it lets you set the limits very easily with that "speed guide". Haven't seen anything similar in other clients.

Start with 1024 down / 256 up, and adjust up and down from there.
