Use fun examples.

I teach college English, and I hate it when my classes feel boring. I spice it up by using funny or silly examples, comparing our conversations to things from everyday life, or by asking provocative questions.

have more hands on projects, organize trips to places so they can learn about subjects. Tell them surprising facts about the subject that would spark their interest. Sometimes students find the subject because the way the teacher teaches is boring. Try speaking in a louder voice, also display expressions of being in a good mood, this will tell students they have nothing to be afraid of. Also a particularly mean way to get students to pay attention is picking on students who barely participate, this will make everyone nervous so they will pay attention as not to make a fool of themselves when you ask them a question.

Find a way to connect the boring subject to something the student is passionate about. For example, Math. I hate math, but if it is used for something art-related, I will pay attention. Give them a reason to want to learn the subject.

Well make up a game. Like for instance at my school for math we take four seats and put them around the room like baseball plates get 2 teams get flash cards 1 person from each team comes up put the flash card up and the person who answers the question first goes to the first chair.People keep coming around and then once 1 person gets to the home plate they get a point for witch ever team their on!!

Threaten them that they have to take it over again if they don't pass.

Just kidding...

Get the students involved. Play games, bring it to life. If they get involved, its more than just listening.... They need to have variety and something different to make it appeal more.
