I'd rather spend the money exploring space than give it to some third world dictator who would use it to oppress the people you think we are helping.
Space research has also helped us have a better life here. NASA is even growing vegetables as part of their research, and has found a way to hydroponically grow sweet potatoes that have 5 times the nutritional value of ones grown in normal soil.
Before saying something is stupid, investigate it and look for the benefits you may not have known about.

The money the United States spends on space exploration is peanuts compared to the amount that is spent on fake wars. You seen any weapons of mass destruction lately?

The money that is spent on the average commercial in the United States could feed the hungry in the United States. I'm pretty much disgusted by the decadence of our society, the same rap star that says "Rock the Vote" or "Feed the World" is kicking out $20 mil for a stupid 5 minute video. No one wants to pay teachers their rightful salary but Jerry Seinfeld can make millions for an episode that helps no one? Don't even get me started on NBA and NFL stars! Half of them can't even spell!

Teachers can educate people so that they never become hungry. Yet they get paid peanuts. Most teachers can be the perfect role models, but we choose the likes of 50 Cent, Paris Hilton and Flavor Flav! The minute the government starts giving scientists a little funding for their research, we start whining about the money. Bush has not found any WMD and we're still in Iraq! Our society in the United States is a self-centered and foolish society. We have all the advantages but we're too busy fighting over BullSh*t to get anything done. As Americans we can start valuing the people that can make real changes in our lives. As Americans we can stop being greedy and egotistical to the point that we no longer need to spend $90 million on a commercial!

What can " Americans " do to change things? Wow! At what point in time the everyone else fall off the planet? Americans need to start worrying about America. The rest of the world can handle themselves.

We need to advance as a society. I understand your take, however, the cure for world hunger is not as easy as throwing money at it. You also need the cooperation of their government and volunteers ect... those in need also should be educated on how to care from themselves so they are not dependent on others the rest of their life. It is amazing what one person can do if you just give them a chance!

Sherry_M actually says it best!
Miss_Ursie_la... Ever hear of N. Korea?

you think of scientists have any say in how the Amazon rainforest is dealt with? looking existence on Mars, or maybe Terraforming mars could be our basically thank you to proceed to exist as a species. So what's going to be your selection? scaling down what's relax of our worldwide existence-line, or probably producing a sparkling planet to make specific your survival? The PHUCK is that this besides.

that is a good question. its like why are we building billlion dollar fighter jets instead of helping world hunger and poverty? well that is like the same question. because no one focuses on poverty and wants to abolish it but people really want to find out if there is life on other planets. that is the only reason i can think of. but really it needs to change. i am going to help world hunger my self by sponsoring a child. maybe u should think about doing that if u don't already do.

As long as there is third world dictators that will take that food and aide out of the mouths of those it was meant for and give it to there military no one can do anything.

It goes back to the US wanting to be the "first" and the "best" at all things. We were first on the moon, and so we want to be first in other outer space stuff. Many of us agree that money could be better spent dealing with poverty here on earth. You could write to your senators and congressmen to let them know how you feel; if they were to get enough letters from people, maybe they would at least think about it.

You ask that question with such childish naivety. The fact is that the reason we are able to spend on technological advance gives us the tools to tackle world hunger.

There are many other factors such as.

The people who live in poverty to them they dont value things such as freedom, democracy, hygiene.

Their culture is ultra-religious and ultra-tribal they dont respect womens right either you would be a maid servant if we gave them a say in world affairs.

Plus also if we gave their culture any validity your vagina would have circumcised with razors by now.

Go be a nice little white girl and play with your make up and hair leave the worlds problems in the hands of men who know how things work.
