know none of us have magic ball, but I was talking to my professor and he said that the continent of Africa is going thru it's dark ages, mainly because of Imperialism. He also concluded that it would take the next 200-500 years before they ever really unscramble. I guess in the grand scheme of long term history 200-500 yrs is not a long time.

MY QUESTION FOR YOU

1. Do you all think that he is right?
2. Do you think that the any of the African nations will ever rise to world power status?

Now, American girl's answer is probably on of the reasons Africa is in its dark ages. From her answer, I seem to conclude that she has prejudices against Islam.

Is that the reason people don't feel apt to help out. Because the people there are practicing a certian religion?

I believe that Africa has the ability to become great. One of the main problems is that the people need to learn to get along with each other. There are many tribal feuds that have been going for hundreds of years. The problem is they don't see themselves as one race. They see themselves as Zulus, ,Ethopians and Hutus.
If they could somehow overcome this mode of thinking I believe they could be great. They also need to police themseves. Why is it the world and the UN has to intervene in Dafur WITHOUT the South African military, the Kenyan military or the different police in the outlying provinces?

I don't think there is one easy answer to this but I believe that Africa could be great.

Your professor is in my opinion stupid (Imperialism)and lives in an Ivory tower, I am African, I was born there and it is very tribal and we typically hate each other, who do you think started slavery, we did by raiding each other villages. Also throw in the Muslims who centuries ago came across Saudi Arabia and into Africa and slaughtered whole villages, now they are doing the same thing all over again. The world could care less about Africa, because each country has its own set of problems. Your Professor can says what ever he/she wants because he most likely has tenure.
